Day wise itinerary

  • Day 1 - Arrival at Bagdogra Airport - Drive to Phuentsholing
  • On arriving at Bagdorgra Airport, our driver will meet and greet you outside the airport and will take you straight to Phuentsholing. At Phuentsholing your papers would be collected for Visa / Entry Permit.

  • Day 2 - Phuentsholing - Thimpu
  • Have your breakfast at your hotel. After that your will be taken to the Bhutan Immigration office for your entry passes. Once your pass is ready you will be driven to the beautiful town of Thimpu.

    On reaching Thimpu, check in at your hotel and you are at leisure to explore the nearby streets and markets at your will.

  • Day 3 - Thimpu Sightseeing
  • Once a rustic village sitting in a broad, fertile river valley, Thimphu is today the nation’s bustling capital. Enjoy a full day of sightseeing after your breakfast at the hotel.

    Start your day with the visit to Textile Museum. Then visit the famous Buddha Point. From here you can experience a breathtaking view of Himalayas around you. While coming down visit the Thimpu View Point
    from where you can take an awesome view of Thimpu. Visit the Royal Palace and the National Memorial Chorten depicting the Buddhist faith in the form of paintings and statues. If there is time, you may visit the Nursing pen for the Takin, the national animal of Bhutan, and
    Tashichhodzong, ‘the fortress of the glorious religion’. Initially erected in 1641 by Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal, it was rebuilt in the 1960s during the reign of Bhutan’s third king in the traditional style, without plans or nails. Tashichhodzong houses some ministries, His Majesty’s secretariat, and the central monk body.

    Other sites to visit include: the School for Arts and Crafts where students are taught the 13 types of Bhutanese art, The National Library housing the collection of Bhutanese scriptures dating back to the 8th
    century, the Traditional Paper Factory displaying the Bhutanese paper making process, and a fascinating replica of a medieval farmhouse at the Folk Heritage Museum.

    If your visit to Thimphu coincides with the weekend, you can walk through the Thimphu Market to see the variety of food of Bhutan, including basket upon basket of fiery chilies, fresh cheese and a variety of fresh greens. In addition, many stalls contain Bhutanese handicrafts and household items. (This market is open only from Friday until mid-Sunday).
    At evening visit the Clock-tower situated at the heart of the city. Explore all the souvenir shops and the Thimpu Market before returning to your hotel.

  • Day 4 - Thimpu – Punakha - Paro
  • Wake up early and start your journey to Punakha. Drive over the Dochu-La pass (3,100 meters), which on a clear day offers an incredible view of Himalayan peaks before descending into balmy Punakha valley (about 3 hrs. total driving time). The drive through the countryside affords a glimpse of everyday life in this most remote of Himalayan kingdoms. In the Dochu-La area there are vast Rhododendron forests that grow to tree size and bloom in late April/early May covering the mountains in a riot of glorious spring
    color.

    Punakha was the ancient capital of Bhutan. On arrival, visit Punakha Dzong, the “Palace of Great Happiness” built in 1637 by the Shabdrung, the ‘Unifier of Bhutan’ as predicted by the great Guru Rimpoche (Padmasambhava). It is situated at the confluence of the Mo Chu and Pho Chu (Mother and Father Rivers. The three storey main temple of the Punakha Dzong is a breathtaking example of traditional architecture with four intricately embossed entrance pillars crafted from cypress and decorated in gold and silver. It was here on 17th December 1907, Bhutan’s first king was crowned.
    Visit the Khamsum Yulley Namgyal Chorten, this is a one-of-a-kind example of Bhutanese art and architecture built by the third Queen Mother, Ashi Tshering Yangdon Wangchuck. Accessible only by foot, the one-hour walk crosses over a Suspended foot bridge that is adorned with colorful prayer flags.
    After lunch, enjoy a walk to Chimi Lhakhang, temple of the Drukpa Kuenly who is also known as the Divine Madman. He inherited the Divine Madman title since he revolted against the orthodox Buddhism in his
    time. He taught the people that religion is an inner feeling and it’s not necessary that one should be an ordained monk. He is also considered a symbol of fertility and most childless couples go to his temple for
    blessing.

    Later at evening, make your journey back to Paro. Your road goes through the same Dochula Pass, outskirts of Thimpu, Chuzon. As you enter Paro, stop at the Indo Bhutan Friendship Bridge at Chuzom to see the confluence of Thimpu Chu and Paro Chu. On reaching Paro, check in at your hotel and take rest.

  • Day 5 - Paro Sightseeing
  • After breakfast, start your Paro Sightseeing Tour. Start your day with National Museum of Bhutan. It is perched above Paro Dzong, built in 1649 to protect the undefended dzong and renovated in 1968 to house the National Museum. Just below National Museum of Bhutan is the magnificent Paro Dzong. It ranks as a high point of Bhutanese Architecture. The massive buttressed walls that tower over the town as visible throughout the valley.

    Later visit the Dungtse Lhakhang. This temple is said to have built on the head of demoness who was causing illness to the inhabitants. The building was restored in 1841 and is a unique repository of Kagyu lineage arts. You may or may not be permitted inside but can walk around this three storey Chorten type building. At last visit, Kyichu Lhakhang monastery. It is one of the ancient, quiet and beautiful temples in Bhutan. The temple was established by the Buddhist King Songstsen Gampo of Tibet to overcome the giant ogress that laid across Tibet and Himalayas preventing the spread of Buddhism. At evening you can take photos of yourself wearing Bhutan National Dress. (at own cost).

  • Day 6 - Paro - Phuentsholing
  • After breakfast check out of the hotel and drive to Phuentsholing. Phuentsholing is the entry point of Bhutan from India. On the way visit Kharbandi Monastery just before entering Phuentsholing. Once you
    reach Phuentsholing, check in at your hotel and have some rest.

    At evening, stroll around the streets of Phuentsholing, visit the Bhutan Gate and Zangto Pelri Monastery on foot. Explore the market for souvenirs.

  • Day 7 - Phuentsholing - Bagdogra
  • After breakfast in the morning check out of the hotel and drive to Bagdogra Airport for your return journey.
